Al Fresco's must be one of the most popular chains of restaurants serving reasonably priced Western food in Ho Chi Minh City. I have been coming here a few times every year for the last 6 years, most of the time for lunch.
Today I went to the Đông Du branch as I have found it to be the branch with the most consistent service and food quality. I had a three course set lunch for 195,000₫ plus a glass of ice tea. As the starter I ordered chicken quesadillas which were tasty, but perhaps a bit plain. My main was the Aussie steak with mashed potatoes and a black pepper sauce, both steak and pepper sauce were OK but not more. For dessert I had what was possibly the smallest banana split ever made, but a nice little ice cream.
Over the last few years I have seen Al Fresco's get cheaper with endless promotions, but sadly the food quality has also dropped as a consequence. The Al Fresco's Group also own Jaspas which is a quite similar but a little bit more expensive chain of Western restaurants, the two brands have come further apart and I now tend to opt for Jaspas as they have better locations, better service and better food.
If half stars were available, I would give Al Fresco's 3.5 stars, but as it is now the OK rating seems more fair.
Al Fresco's is one of the most popular Western restaurant chains in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam. The chain has several locations around the city serving BBQ ribs, pizzas, Mexican food and is frequented by both locals, tourists and expats.
