Imotaro is a Japanese restaurant located in the Japanese area around early Lê Thánh Tôn street in District 1. it is open for lunch and dinner and it gets packed at times, so reservations are in order. Imotaro stands out by offering mainly rice dishes and hot pot rather than sushi and sashimi.

My favorite lunch place

Reviewed on 2013-11-09

Imotaro has quickly become a favorite lunch place for me and I tend to go there for lunch at least once a week even though it is not particularly close to my office.

I normally have the Deep Fried Chicken And Vegatables With Sweet Vinegar Sauce lunch set for 148,000đ. This is a dish I have never had anywhere else, but I love the crunchy vegetables, perfect chicken, nice rice and the small bowl of soup which comes with it.

As a lover of Japanese food without having any interest in fish or seafood, this place is perfect for me with its massive selection of rice dishes with chicken and different kinds of meat. I also enjoy their Ground Pork Basil Rice. Service is prompt and friendly, so I highly recommend trying it out for lunch one day, but do make sure to reserve a table.

Another side of Japanese cuisine

Reviewed on 2013-12-03 (Updated on 2014-01-29)

Japanese is my favorite cuisine, but before I thought of Japanese cuisine as mainly different kinds of sushi and sashimi. Imotaro has given me another way to enjoy Japanese food as here you will not find a lot of sushi, but instead there is a wide range of different rice dishes, hot pot and yummy snacks.

Imotaro is perfect for a Japanese dinner with sake after long day at work, however, as it is not close to my house, I mostly go to Imotaro for lunch. I love to try new dishes, but there is one set: Teriyaki chicken bowl with a soft-boiled egg that I can not get enough of. It is normally 120,000₫ and you get a big bowl of rice with teriyaki chicken on top, a soft-boiled egg on the side, a small salad and big bowl of soup with noodles.

Imotaro does a great job with their chicken dishes. I have tried a few chicken dishes and they are all great.
Their staff is helpful, the Japanese managers are very friendly and you always feel welcome when you get to the restaurant.

You will need to book a table for the lunch and dinner. I highly recommend it, especially if you wish to try Japanese food that is not sushi. As I can not get enough of their food I have to give them 5 stars.
