It was time to venture to that well known chicken vendor for a late evening meal, KFC. The Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai branch was on my way home & thus was an obvious choice. On entering, I was greeted with the well-rehearsed ‘welcome to KFC’. There was no reason to view the menu, I also had been rehearsing in my mind & my order was well memorised.
My order of an XL Zinger meal with a side of mashed potato for a total of 114,000đ was rapidly served. The meal consists of a zinger burger, one piece of chicken, fries & a drink. I added the mashed potato, not for the potato itself but for the gravy which is great drizzled over fries.
The usual quality was maintained with the fries being crispy, the chicken flavoursome & the burger filling. I feel that KFC should put more effort into their burgers. The large chunk of tomato & huge lettuce leaf really should be sliced finer. The chicken zinger itself was tasty enough but hardly worth a recommendation. The gravy, as always, was delicious & complimented the fries perfectly. It is a shame that KFC in Asia do not sell the gravy alone as they do elsewhere, the potato really is a very distant impression of potato. It is more akin to baby food than potato, edible it is but moreish it is not.
It was a typical trip to KFC, filling but not overly rewarding. No doubt I shall return as at times it is a desired source of calories. 3 stars for KFC which incidentally is the number of months the Founder (Colonel Sanders) spent in the United States Army.
