Le Pub

Rating   Budget

Le Pub is a massively popular bar chain in the backpacker area of Ho Chi Minh City and a smaller branch in the center of dist 3. Le Pub serves both Vietnamese and international food and consistently attracts a mixed crowd of locals, expats and tourists. It can get very busy during their quiz nights.

This place is located on Bui Vien, it is often crowded so that combined with it being suggested to me led to me deciding to give it a shot. The greeting was fairly warm and the waiter was quite keen to sit us at a table, from this point on it went downhill. We ordered our drinks and I requested some time to contemplate my food choice. This seemed way beyond the young chap who stood over me like a deranged vulture. Feeling rather annoyed, I quickly decided on beef satay sticks. He seemed content to take the order and strode off. Minutes later, he returned and muttered 'old menu, you have to order from this one'. This led to me being even less impressed, I did not need time to contemplate this menu as it was so barren, about 6 items. The likes of mango salad and similar did not appeal to me so I handed the menu to him and informed him I would pass.

The very over priced drinks (55,000đ for a small Tiger beer, 70,000đ for a gin and tonic) were cold and wet. Not much can go wrong with such an order but the prices certainly are wrong and exhibit pure greed. The place is depressingly dark, the music is loud but commendably not poorly selected with respect to variation.

I will never return and can see absolutely no reason why anyone would go here. My recommendation is that people steer well clear of it unless poor service, terrible prices and near black out settings are something they seek. A very generous 1 star for the worst establishment I have been to in Vietnam, Asia and possibly the World!
