Lotte Mart

Lotte Mart is a South Korean-Japanese supermarket/hypermarket chain with a few branches in Ho Chi Minh City. The centers are very large and sell everything from clothing to fresh food. Its mother company Lotte is one of the most prominent shopping companies in Asia today.

Lotte really has the lot

Lotte Mart is a typical supermarket chain that is very popular throughout Asia. The Lotte Mart in D.7 is a typically huge expanse kept clean & presentable with icy cool air conditioning. The shelves are well stocked & basically everything for ones domicile is available here. There is a huge range of foods from fruit & vegetables to dog food & a small section with imported goods.

Additionally, household electrical goods & clothing are available. I would advise against shopping for electrical goods here, 1 million VND & upwards for a toaster ($50) seems like an awful lot of bread for a relatively cheap item. Also, shopping for clothing can be frustrating as the sizes tend to be small (even for us regular sized westerners). Also contained in this gargantuan building is a Pizza Hut, a Lotteria (no surprise), a food court with a fairly diverse selection & a cinema.

In my view this is a great place for food shopping, the huge range makes it a formidable resource. My criticisms of Lotte are the over priced electrical goods & the fact that out of over 30 cashiers, only 12 were operating which led to long queues. In addition, a staff member had the impudence to say that the taking of pictures was not permitted. I ignored her, just as the security guards ignored me as seen in a picture.

Lotte Mart is well worth a visit, an ideal place for your grocery restocking. Three stars for Lotte Mart which funnily enough is the same number of over priced toasters here.
