Situated right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, The Notre Dame Cathedral or The Notre Dame Basilica to be exact is the most famous church in the city. It was built between 1877 and 1883 and considered as the most beautiful cathedral in the former French colonies. Until today, the cathedral still retains its bright and lively color, especially the red bricks for the exterior walls which were brought from Marseille.

I usually walk around this area to admire the architecture of this magnificent building. Obviously, it cannot compete with the Notre Dame de Paris or massive European churches but it has its own charm as the only Gothic-Roman church in the city. In front of the church, there is a granite statue of Virgin Mary which was claimed to shed tears in 2005. There are a lot of young people and tourists in this area. As for me, it is a must to go to the cathedral and take some photos when visiting Ho Chi Minh City.

The Church holds mass every Sunday morning in both Vietnamese and English.
