Quán Ụt Ụt, which translates to oink oink restaurant, is an American style BBQ restaurant. True to their name they serve a range of slow cooked pork dishes such as BBQ ribs, pulled pork and their own home made bacon. They also brew their own beer.

Flawless pork creations

I was one of the very first customers at Quán Ụt Ụt, a new beautiful but casual BBQ restaurant. We were quite a large group sharing most of the dishes on the menu, so I got to try almost everything. This turned out to be a great idea.

They make their own bacon and we ordered a few plates of just bacon, mozzarella sticks and chicken wings to start. The bacon was fantastic, it was impossible to not have more and we ended up ordering a few more plates. The mozzarella sticks and chicken wings were also some of the better in town, but did not come close to the bacon in my book. This restaurant makes their own sauces, and especially the mustard was terrific, I put it on everything.

The main courses were a full rack of pork ribs, pulled pork shoulder and sugarcane smoked chicken. The smoked chicken was good, but I felt that the smoked taste did the pork more justice. Both the pulled pork and the ribs were possibly the best I have ever had, lots of meat that tasted great and easily came of the bones. BBQ perfection.

Quán Ụt Ụt is also an excellent place to enjoy beer as they serve both the usual suspects like Heineken and their own beer brewed in small batches as well as bottles of nice imports like Blue Moon. The interior design is very nice with a cute industrial pig theme, and it is a perfect place to go with a group of friends.

I highly recommend a visit for anyone who is even remotely into meat dishes and beer.

Great ribs

Reviewed on 2014-05-19 (Updated on 2017-05-20)

Ụt Ụt prides itself on its BBQ, portion sizes & food overall. So for the sake of precision, this review is a more detailed critique of the food my friend & I devoured here.

Each meal comes with your choice of two sides. We ordered BBQ chicken with macaroni cheese & mashed potato with gravy as sides. A half rack of ribs with macaroni cheese & pink slaw as sides was the second dish for our meal. The food was brought in a timely manner, I was immediately struck by the fact that the portions were not as large as I had been led to believe. The menu clearly states that mains serve 1-2 people, I presume these are 1-2 small people who are not overly hungry.

This did not matter though as I was more interested in the taste. So, in summary; the ribs were fantastic; the chicken was superb; the pink slaw was a first for me & was enjoyable. Now, unfortunately to the downside. I ordered two macaroni cheese because I had been told of the planning & effort that went into it before Ụt Ụt opened. It did have a good taste but it was not saucy as I like it, it bordered on dry. The mashed potato, oh dear! I really do not know what happened with it. The gravy was flavourless & the potato itself had a peculiar taste, almost sweet. My dining partner commented how much better my mash is, so that was nice to hear.

The portions were not going to fill us so we ordered a Caesar salad & I am very glad we did. The 64° egg was different but the salad itself covered in bacon bits, cheese & pork gristle was fantastic.
