Located in a prime area of District 1, Somerset Chancellor Court is one of the most established serviced apartments in HCMC. There are many restaurants and attractions within walking distance, making it an ideal accommodation for tourists and short-term visitors.
Majority of the residents here are expatriates, with a sizeable Japanese community. Due to its location, the long term stay rates are really expensive, which in my opinion do not reflect at all the apartments’ quality. The lobby and common areas may looked grand and impressive, but not so the apartments. The unit I stayed in previously was well-kept but tired looking. Furnishing was aged, while one of the air-conditioners was frequently in need of servicing.
The main disadvantage of living in city centre was the noise and air pollution. Noises from traffic and constructions could be heard throughout the night, and eventually one had no choice but to get used to it. Although housekeeping services were provided 6 days a week, the apartment still got dusty easily. Speaking of housekeeping, the housekeepers came in daily at different times, which could be annoying. Surely it wasn’t that difficult to make a schedule and stick to it?
The gymnasium and steam room were great though. The gym was well-equipped with various types of high quality machines and I enjoyed the steam room tremendously. Other facilities in the complex include: swimming pool, indoor playroom, beauty salon, mini market and café. It was most unfortunate that there wasn’t any outdoor playground for the kids.
Making up for the old apartment’s interior, the employees here were generally well-trained and efficient. The security guards in particular were always pleasant and helpful. Somerset Chancellor Court is a good option if you wish to enjoy the downtown excitement and don’t mind the hefty price.
