Mediocre drinks in modern setting

I came to know of Urban Station Café only when it opened at 25 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai during my 6-month stay in Somerset Chancellor Court, which was just two doors away. I was not even aware that Urban Station Café has so many outlets until I went through the list of spots here on HCMC.COM. Pretty surprised to see how extensive this chain is!

One look at the menu board, it was not hard to see why the café is popular. First of all, the drinks were really cheap, with prices ranging from 17,000đ for a black coffee to 35,000đ for smoothies, shakes and chocolate drinks. Takeaways cost even less, usually 4,000 – 5,000đ cheaper than staying in. Pair the cheap drinks with air-conditioned, clean and modern interior, you get a great place to hang out with friends or do some works on your laptop with the wifi.

I was really surprised though that they didn’t serve any food here (not sure about the other outlets); I expected them to have perhaps some cakes or light snacks, but only beverages were available. The cup of hot mocha (31,000đ) that I had during my last visit was lukewarm and disappointing although the latte art was quite pretty. Good thing that plain water was provided free of charge to wash down the coffee.

My verdict, come here if you want a cheap place to kill some time or to get away from the outdoor heat and dust. The ambience was great, the seats were comfortable and I had no complaints about the staff. Just don’t expect your coffee to taste like Lavazza.
