This is one of the branches of Citimart

Citimart is a large supermarket chain in Ho Chi Minh City. The shops are a bit smaller than some of the megacenters in Vietnam and the selection of products is more international. Citimart supermarkets are often found inside shopping malls or upscale apartment buildings.

A decent mini mart

Citimart is an established, well-known mini market chain in HCMC. Their concept is rather simple – they stock the daily essentials and they don’t target big crowds, but rather a small population of middle to upper class income in a very specific catchment area.

Citimart’s range of products is a mix of localsand imported stuffs. Prices are usually higher here as they try to capitalize on the convenience of locations, such as the outlet in Somerset Chancellor Court, smacked rightat the busy crossroads of Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai and Mạc Đĩnh Chi.

This outlet although small in size, brimmed with goods. It had limited choice for fresh vegetables and fruits (quite pricey), but it was packed with canned, packaged, dried, frozen and processed food. Once, I was rather surprised to find that they even had dried anchovies tucked away in the freezer and bottles of stevia sweetener hidden in a corner. There were also lots of imported cookies, chocolates and candies.

They had some shelves with good array of cooking sauces, spices and condiments, as well as a section dedicated to wines and alcohols. For the convenience of Somerset’s residents, basic toiletries and household items are also available, along with small knick-knacks like wrapping papers, hair bands and mobile phone reload vouchers.

This Citimart is a favourable shopping place for the folks living, working and visiting within the complex. But for better price and selection, I prefer to go to Co-op Mart or Big C.
