The Cu Chi Tunnels were constructed by Vietnamese soldiers during the French occupation in the 1940s. With a total length of over 200 km, this amazing system of underground tunnels had everything needed for Vietnam's battle. Everything from living quarters and meeting rooms to weapon factories.

I had always wanted to see the Cu Chi tunnels and today was to be the day. I purchased my ticket from Mimi travel for the price of 80,000 VND which excludes the entrance fee (90,000đ).

Jimmy, our guide, spoke very good English & gave an informative speech about Vietnam and Cu Chi. He set out the itinerary which was 90 minutes going there (with a stop at a handicrafts factory), 2 hours at Cu Chi then 90 minutes for the return 60km journey. He was clearly happy in his role & sprinkled humour into his introduction.

We arrived at Cu Chi after a stop at a handicrafts factory. Jimmy guided us around & informed the group of the usage of traps, bomb sites and techniques employed by the VC. There was a brief stop at the shooting range where there is the option to shoot, M16’s, Ak47’s & the like are available. A minimum of 10 bullets must be purchased & the price per bullet ranges from 25,000đ to 40,000đ.

After the shooting range we saw a rubber workshop where spent tyres were reused to make shoes. It was then on to the actual tunnels. There is a 200m stretch that people can struggle through, however there is an exit after 30m. Although these tunnels have been widened to accommodate tourists, they are not wide at all. At points it is necessary to crawl & it is very cramped but it is an experience that is certainly memorable. The trip concluded with a video & Jimmy proving his knowledge by answering questions from the group.

I have to give this tour 5 stars. The low price, highly knowledgeable guide, safe driver & clean bus made it a great day. I highly recommend it to everyone!
